Kansas City Boutique Hotel: The Aida

All hail Kansas City’s newest queen, the Aida. A boutique hotel nestled in the heart of Midtown that will instantly have you questioning if you are still in Missouri or were somehow transported to Palm Springs after you stepped through the ornate, arched front doors.

If you’ve had the pleasure of visiting The Truitt (and if you haven’t you can read more about it here and here) you are already familiar with David and Ryan, the genius couple behind these two beautiful properties who are completely reimagining the travel experience. After the success of their first venture, the Truitt, they recently opened the Aida in January 2023. They pull inspiration from their love of travel and design and aimed to create a hotel and space that would channel the same energy and creativity of the city. The property has a long Kansas City history. Originally built in 1903 as a single residence, Mrs. Aida Christopher was the first lady of the house. Ryan and David had her mind as they converted their personal home into the hotel, dreaming of how she might be decorating and designing the space 120 years later. I think it’s safe to say she would be thrilled with the care and features that inhabit her former home.

The Aida is a stunning rock mansion located steps away from the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, the Country Club Plaza, and Theis Park at the corner of 44th and McGee. After acquiring the property five years ago David and Ryan have spent the last year painstakingly converting it to one of the most spectacular properties I have ever seen. The eight-room inn is artfully designed and decorated with bold color, antiques, local art, and even a grand piano in one of the two common areas for guests to enjoy. Each room is drenched in natural light making it the perfect space to work or unwind. There is also an outdoor living space with a bubbling fountain that used to be an original swimming pool. I’m dreaming about a glass of rosé and a great book out there this spring! Each room is different, yet you can expect core details consistent throughout; your own space and privacy, moody marble bathrooms with a rainfall showerhead, monogrammed robes, Casper mattresses, and a fully stocked snack bar. Every detail is thoughtfully curated with guest experience and comfort in mind. There are wine nights on Friday and Saturday, Italian espresso every morning and even the bedding is made of luxury linens handcrafted in Massachusetts that were the clear winner when Ryan and David personally tested 15 sets. They have truly thought of everything and I promise you will leave inspired, refreshed, and recharged.

The Aida officially opened January 10th, 2023 and you can book a king room, deluxe king, or a one or two bedroom suite at www.aidakc.com. All stays also include contactless check-in so you can come and go as you please. David and Ryan are nearby and not only serve as your hosts but are always available for Kansas City recommendations and reservations and will help make your stay memorable. This is the ideal getaway any night of the week, but would be perfect for the Plaza Art Fair, the lighting ceremony, or even renting it out with your friends for a weekend! One trip to the Aida will have you rethinking everything you thought you knew about travel – no corporate chains or kitschy bed & breakfasts here, only soul and personality around every corner. Whether you recommend the Aida to guests visiting Kansas City or book a staycation for yourself this property will stay with you long after check-out.
